Anti-Slavery

The first written genre to be analyzed and produced in our language classes as part of the Stance Teen Webzine was the feature article.  Initially, the overarching theme of Questions was discussed and contextualized within the second term social activity.

In Social Studies classes, students wrote a series of Persuasive Letters addressed to major companies to ensure the non-existence of slave labour at any stage of the manufacturing of their products. The letters represented an act of engagement from the students, on an antislavery worldwide campaign as a result of an online interview with an expert from Great Britain on Contemporary Slavery – Michaela Alfred-Kamara – a member of the Anti-Slavery International NGO.

Overall, the underlying objective of this project is not just to inform, but also to incite further reflection and, whenever possible, action.
